Baronial Investiture

 

 

Herald:  Now let _________________, ____________________, ______________________, (etc. the witnesses, usually the premiers of the baronial orders, called by name and title) Come before Their Royal Majesties.

 

King:  Noble Premiers of the Barony of _________________, will you now undertake to stand as witnesses to this Ceremony of Investiture, and to hold in surety the ancient and honorable regalia of ___________________?

 

Premiers:  We will.  (or something like that.)

 

Herald:  Their Royal Majesties now call before them, Their Excellencies, ______________ and ________________, Baron and Baroness of _________________.

 

King:  Are you now firmly resolved to retire from the Baronial Dignity of the Barony of _____________________?

 

B&B:  (Responds in their own fashion.)

 

Queen:  _____________________ and _________________________, with your many years of service to Our Kingdom and Our Barony of ___________________, We therefore accept your petition to retire at this time. 

 

(The King and Queen offer Their hands to the B&B who clasp them.)

 

King:  We, ___________________ and ____________________, by right of arms, King and Queen of the Outlands, do this day release you from your bonds of service and Oaths of Fealty as Baron and Baroness of ____________________.

 

Baron:  We return into Your Royal hands, this ________________ (piece of Baronial regalia) , which ________________ (some cleverly historical comment.)

 

King:  We accept from your noble hands, this __________________.


(His Majesty hands the item to the premier ______________ )

 

Baroness:  We return into Your Royal hands, this _______________ (piece of Baronial regalia), which __________________ (another cleverly historical statement.)

 

Queen:  We accept from your noble hands, this _________________.

 

(Her Majesty hands the item to the premier _____________ )

 

This continues until all extraneous regalia is returned, ending with the following.

 

Baron:  And finally, we return into Your Royal hands these, the Coronets which are the symbols of Your sovereignty and dominion.

 

Baroness:  Whereby the Royal Presence has been honored in obedience and affection.

 

(Their Excellencies remove their Coronets and hand them to the King and Queen, who take them as they say:)

 

King:  We accept from your noble hands these coronets of your proven fealty.

 

Queen:  Wherewith you have ruled in Our stead, obedient and beloved of your people.

 

(Their Majesties shall give the coronets to the premier _______________ and _______________, or to one of their attendants to hold.)

(The outgoing B&B exchange final words with Their Majesties, then rise and retire, possibly accompanied by a herald, announcing them with full titles and awards.)

 

Herald:  For _______________ and ________________ Outgoing Baron and Baroness of __________________, HIP, HIP,.....

 

Herald:  It pleases Their Majesties to call ___________________ and ____________________ to come before this court and company.

 

Escorting Herald:  Your Majesties, my lords and ladies, Now before you comes _____________________, <full name, full list of titles and awards> who bears by {Award/Grant/Patent} of Arms, and the Grace of the Crown, <blazon of arms>, and ___________________, <full name, full list of titles and awards> who bears by {Award/Grant/Patent} of Arms, and the Grace of the Crown, <blazon of arms>.

 

(Candidates come forward and kneel before Their Majesties, their escorts kneel to one side.)

 

King:  Are you now fully resolved to accept the Baronial Dignity of the Barony of ________________?

 

Candidates:  (Each shall respond in their own fashion.)

 

(The premiers holding the coronets shall hand them to Their Majesties.)

 

King:  Accept from Our hands these Coronets, symbols of the Crown's Sovereignty and Dominion.

 

Queen:  Be obedient to the Crown of the Outlands and in so doing, obtain the love of your people.

 

(Their Majesties place the Coronets upon their heads.)

 

(Premier ____________ steps forward and hands item to His Majesty.)

 

King:  Accept from our hands, this _________________, which ______________________ (repeat the clever bit here.)

 

(Premier ____________ steps forward and hands item to Her Majesty.)

 

Queen:  Accept from Our hands, this _______________, symbolizing  _______________________ (repeat cleverness.)

 

This continues until all of the regalia has been passed.

 

King:  Bring forth Lightning, the Great Sword of State of the Outlands that _____________'s and ______________'s oath of fealty may be pledged.

 

(Swordbearer give Lightning to His Majesty.)

 

B&B:  This day do I render homage and fealty for my lands. 

I hereby swear to deal justly and honorably

with all of my subjects whatever their degree;

to protect my barony from harm

and to endeavor to rule my lands wisely

in the name of the Crown. 

This do I swear, upon the dignity of my Coronet,

upon this Sword and upon my honor. 

So say I, ____________________________

 

King:  We hear your oath, and accept your fealty and do pledge to you that We will protect your lands and defend your rights, and those of Our subjects, with all justice and honor.

 

(Returns Lightning to swordbearer.)

 

Now, having heard your solemn oaths, We, _______________ and _______________, King and Queen of the Outlands, do name you, ____________________ and _______________________, Baron and Baroness of ______________________! 

 

Arise!

 

Herald:  For _________________ and ____________________, Baron and Baroness of _____________________, HIP, HIP, ........

 

Queen:  It would honor Us if you would join Us in Our court.

 

Baron:  Your Majesties, may we receive the officers of our Barony in Your court?

 

King:  You may.

 

Herald:  Let the Officers of the Barony of _______________________ come before Their Excellencies, to pledge their service.

(name officers, with title and office.)

 

(The officers come forward and kneel.)

 

Baron:  You have served ______________________ well as administrators and advisors, and we thank you for your past service.  It is our wish to confirm you in your offices.  If you wish to continue in your service as officers, swear this oath of service:

 

Officers:  This day do I swear

to serve the Barony of  ____________________.

I pledge to do my duties

by the laws of the Kingdom,

and I will strive to render faithful counsel

to my Baron and Baroness. 

So say I, _______________

 

Baron:  (accepts in his own words or:) We accept your oaths of service and pledge to you that we will protect and defend you with all justice and honor.

 

Baroness:  Be ever mindful that you serve our barony best by serving the needs of all her people.
