Creation of a Shire

or a College not within a Barony

 

 

Herald:  Now let all those subjects of the Crown resident in the Lands of ___________________ come before Their Majesties that their petition might be heard.

 

The people of the incipient [Shire/College] come forward and kneel, leaving an aisle.

 

King:  Good subjects of ________________________, We have taken counsel of Our advisors, who declare that you are well gifted with artisans, active in welcoming strangers, and strong in your support of Our Crown.  we are therefore minded to elevate you to the status of a Shire in Our Realm. 

 

King:  Call forth Our Seneschal and Our Peers.

 

Herald:  Now let the Kingdom Seneschal and the representatives of the Peers of the Realm, come before Their Majesties.

 

King:  My [Lord/Lady] Seneschal, We charged you to examine the petition of the people of ___________________________, to determine if all is in order.  Has this been done?

 

Seneschal:  It has, Your Majesty, and all has been found to be in good order.

 

King:  Noble Peers, will you now attest to the worthiness of the people of ____________________ to become a [Shire/College] in Our Realm?

 

Chivalry:  Replies in their own fashion, or says:

Your Majesties, I, _______________________, speaking on behalf of the Order of Chivalry, am able to affirm that the people of _________________ have supported Your Majesties' armies through the mustering of  fighters [water bearers, etc.] and through the teaching of the fighting arts.

 

Laurel:  Replies in their own fashion, or says:

Your Majesties, I, _______________________, speaking on behalf of the Order of the Laurel,  am able to affirm that the people of _____________________ have supported the Arts and Sciences through teaching, and through their divers works.

 

Pelican:  Replies in their own fashion, or says:

Your Majesties, I, __________________________, speaking on behalf of the Order of the Pelican, am able to affirm that the people of _________________________ have given of their time and labors in support of their own group and of Your Majesties' Realm.

 

Royal Peer:  Replies in their own fashion, or says:

Your Majesties, I, __________________________, speaking on behalf of the Royal Peers, am able to affirm that the people of ______________________________ are loyal subjects and supporters of Your Crown, and as such would make a worthy addition as a [Shire/College] of Your Realm.

 

King:  Good subjects of ________________________, We have taken counsel of Our advisors, and of Our Seneschal, and have carefully debated the merits of your request.

 

Here His Majesty tells the group how pleased He is with them in His own words.

 

King:  As you have faithfully served Us, for the good of the realm, and in accordance with your standing as Our subjects, so are We resolved to grant your petition.  Good ____________________, Our faithful Seneschal, Now are We firm in resolve, Let the name of ________________ be entered as a [Shire/College] into the Book of Our Realm.  So say We, _______________________ and _____________________, King and Queen of the Outlands.

 

Seneschal:  It shall be done, Your Majesty.

 

Herald:  You have Their Majesties' leave to depart. 

 

The Kingdom Seneschal and the Peers rise, bow, and retire.

 

Herald:  For the new [Shire/College]  of ______________________, HIP, HIP,.... (3 cheers).
